Rolleston Community Patrol in its current incarnation was created in December 2020. After an initial public meeting, a small team of dedicated individuals formed a steering committee. The steering committee reached out to police, local council and existing patrols to determine what would be required to start a community patrol in Rolleston.
It was quickly realised that there would be a great deal of work to be completed to form a patrol properly, with support from police and other national organisations. The first thing the committee accomplished was determining its purpose, structuring itself, then moved focus to incorporating and gaining charitable status.
After becoming incorporated and gaining charitable status, the committee determined funding channels would be required to acquire the necessary assets for a functioning patrol. At the same time as reaching out to doners and sponsors, the committee has been reaching out the other community based groups active in Rolleston, building relationships and identifying collaborative activities that will benefit Rolleston and help Rolleston Community Patrol meets its purpose of reducing crime in Rolleston.
